About Taroona Uniting Church
An Important Update from Taroona Uniting Church
After many years of worship, fellowship and service to the Taroona community, Taroona Uniting Church will be closing at the end of 2026.
This has not been an easy decision. Our church has been a place of faith, friendship, celebration, reflection and care for generations of people, and we recognise that its closure will bring sadness for many within our congregation and the wider community.
As we approach the end of the year, our focus will be on giving thanks for the life and ministry of Taroona Uniting Church and celebrating the many people who have contributed to its story.
While the congregation will come to a close, the relationships, memories and contributions that have grown from this community will continue. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has worshipped with us, volunteered, supported our activities, attended community events or simply found a place of welcome within our church.
Details about our final services and opportunities to gather and celebrate the life of Taroona Uniting Church will be published here as arrangements are confirmed.
We warmly invite former members, friends and members of the wider community to join us during these final months as we honour the past, give thanks for the present, and look with hope toward what comes next.

Our History
The Taroona congregation dates from 1902 and has a history of independence. Long before the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977, we had unity of Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational members and adherents. From 1954, the church was known as Taroona United Church and enjoyed a system of oversight from each of the three denominations, in turn, for 3 year periods.
In 1977, the congregation agreed to enter the Uniting Church and became part of the former Kingborough Parish. With the change
from the Parish structure, we entered a co-operative link with
the Kingston and Channel Uniting Churches, with the
Pastoral care and ministry shared.
However, from January 2009, following a decision of Kingston
to seek a minister for that congregation only, we operate as
a single congregation within the Uniting Church of Australia.
Services
At Taroona Uniting Church, we are committed to serving our community and sharing the love of Christ. We believe that everyone is welcome in our church, and we strive to create
a safe and inclusive space for all people.
Services are held every Sunday at 9.30am
Leadership and Ministry
Our ministers include the Rev. Ian Nicolson, a member of our congregation, and lay helpers. Our ministries are designed to help our members grow in their faith and serve others in our community.
